- 588 BCE: Nebuchadrezzar II of Babylon lays siege to Jerusalem under Zedekiah's reign. The siege lasts until July 18, 586 BCE.
- 69: Otho seizes power in Rome, proclaiming himself Emperor of Rome, but only rules for three months before committing suicide.
- 1559: Elizabeth I of England is crowned in Westminster Abbey by Owen Oglethorpe, the Bishop of Carlisle, instead of the Archbishop of Canterbury.
- 1995: Pope John Paul II offers Mass to an estimated crowd of between four and eight million in Luneta Park, Manila, Philippines. This is the largest single event in human history.
