"Gento" (transl. Like This; lit. Gold) is the seventh digital single by SB19. It was released on May 19, 2023, as the pre-release single for the group's second EP, Pagtatag!.[1][2]
Background
On May 10, the group announced their first pre-release single titled "Gento", for their upcoming second EP, Patagtag! which will be released in the month of June. In the announcement, the group revealed the album cover and the pre-save link of the pre-release single.[3] The following day, the group released the "Gento" scheduler.[4]
Composition
"Gento" is described as an EDM pop track that features a play on the Filipino words ganito (like this) and ginto (gold), carries the message of growth and resilience, with the boys likening their journey of refinement to that of gold. The song also demonstrated their strong pen game. With their catchy wordplay, such as effortlessly weaving ganito, ginto, bento, and gento into the lyrics, GENTO has that playfulness while also delivering the empowering message SB19 is known to give. It signals their growth as a group, after years of refinement—just like gold as well.[5] The song is composed in the key of C major and carries an average tempo of 95 beats per minute.[6]
Commercial performance
"Gento" debuted at #8 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart. This is the SB19's first song to get on Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart.[7][8]
