Tamao is one of the three hidden non-playable characters that were first introduced in Pop'n Music 2 AC.

Appearance
Tamao is a yellow fox-like creature with small, black colored eyes. They have a fox head and a silver rocket body with a medium blue stripe on the body.
Etymology
Tamao’s name is written as 玉緒.[1] The name Tamao is generally considered a unisex name. However, its gender changes depending on what kanji is used to write it. Masculine versions of the name Tamao commonly use 男 for “o”, while feminine ways of writing Tamao can use the kanji 緒 or 尾. [2] Tama (玉) can mean ball, sphere, bead, or jewel[3]. O (緒) can mean cord, string, strap, or beginning[4].
Trivia
- They appears in the arcade versions of Pop'n Music 2 by holding both yellow buttons and then pressing the red button at the title screen.
- Due to the spelling of Tamao’s name being feminine, it’s possible that they could be a female character. However, their gender hasn’t been officially confirmed by their character designers.
- Them, Natsuo, and Zo-Gel appear in the movie for Have a good dream.[5]
