Trivia
- Before Generation IV, all fossils are key items. This means that one could not trade it or have multiple of the same fossil.
- It is the only fossil unobtainable in the Alola games.
Origin
It is based on amber, a type of fossilized tree resin commonly found with insects trapped inside of it, hence the concept of a mosquito trapped inside it in its Generation I art.
The Old Amber is based on the theory that extracting DNA from the blood still preserved inside the insect can be used to resurrect past lifeforms. In real life, however, amber cannot preserve DNA.
