- "Captain, I think the crew, meaning me as well, were expecting something a bit more... shiny. What with the Isle de Muerta going all pear-shaped, reclaimed by the sea and the treasure with it."
"And the Royal Navy chasing us all around the Atlantic."
"And the hurricane." - ―Joshamee Gibbs, Leech, and Marty
Depending on its location and strength, a tropical cyclone is referred to by different names, including hurricane and typhoon, which all describe the same weather phenomenon as a type of violent storm that forms over the warm water of Earth's oceans. A hurricane was the term used for a storm that occurred in the Atlantic Ocean or northeastern Pacific Ocean, whereas a typhoon was the term used for such storms that occurred in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. In the South Pacific and Indian Ocean, comparable storms were referred to as "tropical cyclones", and such storms in the Indian Ocean can also be called "severe cyclonic storms".
Behind the scenes

Hurricanes first appeared in Walt Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland through Hurricane Lagoon,[1][2] which was named as early as in the 1967 attraction narration script.[3]
