"I am the resurrection and the life... whosoever believeth in me... even though he shall die... yet shall he have life everlasting..."
Jack Sparrow quotes John 11:25 from the Bible[src]

Christianity was the world's largest and most widespread religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, the central figure of Christianity. Its adherents, known as Christians, which initially meant "little Christs", were estimated to make up a majority of the population in various countries and territories. While Christians worldwide share basic convictions, there were differences of interpretations and opinions of the Bible and sacred traditions on which Christianity was based.

History

Captain Jack Sparrow once impersonated a Christian priest of the Church of England.[1] His first mate Joshamee Gibbs was also a superstitious Christian.[1][2] Jack Sparrow, if not a Christian, believed in the Christian concepts of afterlife, heaven and hell. Notable examples include when he told Twigg and Koehler that the deepest circle of hell was preserved for bertrayers and mutineers, when he told Philip Swift that he was ready to believe to anything he must if that meant he would be accepted into heaven, and when he told Angelica Teach that by unwillingly saving her, Blackbeard's soul may now have been redeemed.[1][3]

Philip Swift was a dedicated Christian missionary who always carried a Bible with him and was imprisoned aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge under Blackbeard's captaincy. Initially intended to be killed, he was defended by Angelica Teach, the daughter of Blackbeard and a faithful Christian. Although he believed all souls could be saved, his view later changed when he witnessed how Blackbeard intended to torture Syrena in order to get a tear for the ritual needed to use the Fountain of Youth.[3]
