Boot

"He's a pirate."
"And a good man. If all that I have achieved today is that the hangman will earn two pairs of boots instead of one, then so be it. At least my conscious shall be clear.

Weatherby Swann and Will Turner[src]

A boot was a type of footwear, and could be made of various sizes. Boots mainly cover body parts like the foot and the ankle, while some also cover some part of the lower calf. Some boots extend up the human leg, sometimes as far as the knee. Most boots have a heel that is clearly distinguishable from the rest of the sole, even if the two are made of one piece. Boots are worn both for their functionality and for reasons of style and fashion. They could come in multiple colors, and were widely worn around the world by civilians, military personnel and officials alike. Many pirates and sailors often wore boots, as well as various officials of the British and Spanish Royal Navy.

Behind the scenes

Captain Jack Sparrow swam underwater several times in the 2003 film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. "Attempting to swim fully clothed in pirate gear with boots strapped to your legs was more difficult than I’d imagined," said Johnny Depp.[1]

While designing Penélope Cruz as Angelica for the 2011 film Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, costume designer Penny Rose included thigh-high boots, "which are very sexy".[2]
