- "Tell me, what do you think of my collection? I keep my favorite books close to me, though, of course, I have the entire library next door."
"Nice collection. I’ve read only a few of them. My favorite would be this one." - ―Cutler Beckett and Jack Sparrow
A book is a medium for recording information in the form of writing or drawings, typically composed of many pages (made of papyrus, parchment, vellum, or paper) bound together and protected by a cover. The technical term for this physical arrangement is codex (plural, codices). In the history of hand-held physical supports for extended written compositions or records, the codex replaces its predecessor, the scroll.
History
Some individuals, like Elizabeth Swann, read books before going to bed.[1]
During the Golden Age of Piracy, the Brethren Court adhered to the Pirata Codex, a handwritten volume of yellowing pages on which the words of Morgan and Bartholomew are preserved,[2] which served as the revered collection of "guidelines" that helps pirates to solve disputes without resorting to slaughter.[3]
