Biography
Background
When the miller's daughter Cora carries some bags of flour to the castle, she is tripped over by Princess Eva. Xavier forces Cora to apologize to her for getting flour on her slippers. At the royal masquerade ball he sees Cora, who brags that she can spin straw into gold. Xavier says that if Cora can spin straw into gold by the next morning, she can marry his son, Prince Henry. However, if she fails, then she dies.Cora is locked in a room with lots of straw and a spinning-wheel where she can't escape. Frustrated and worried, Cora is then visited by a strange man named Rumplestiltskin. He offers to spin the straw into gold for her, in exchange for her firstborn child, but Cora also wants Rumplestiltskin to teach her how to do it. Rumplestiltskin does this, and the next morning, Cora spins straw into gold in front of the kingdom. Amazed, Xavier welcomes Cora to the royal family with open arms, and a desire for never-ending wealth. However, Cora and Rumplestiltskin are in a relationship.
Cora changes the deal so that Cora owes Rumplestiltskin his child. They plan on running away together, and Rumplestiltskin teaches Cora how to rip a heart out. Cora says that she wants to use this ability to kill the king. That night, she visits King Xavier, who is now incredibly pleased with Cora and her ability to spin straw into gold. Cora tells Xavier that she does not love his son, but Xavier tells Cora that "love is weakness", which becomes her phrase. Xavier reveals that he knows about her affair with Rumplestiltskin, and gives her a choice. She can run away with Rumplestiltskin, or she can stay royal. When given the choice between love and power, Cora finds it too difficult to decide and rips her own heart out to stop loving Rumplestiltskin. Marrying into the royal family, Cora and Henry have a daughter and Xavier has a granddaughter Regina, for one day she shall be queen.
