The USS Watson (ECV-221) was a mid-level Exploratory-class vessel in Planetary Union service in the early 25th century. In the original timeline, the ship was led by an unnamed captain between 2419 and 2421. Cassius joined the ship as a schoolteacher in 2421.
The Watson is far more prominent in an alternate timeline where Ed Mercer served as Second and later First Officer under Captain Barrett.
History
In the original timeline, the Watson is only briefly mentioned, as Cassius transferred off the USS Orville to join the ship as a schoolteacher in January 2421.[1]
Alternate timeline
In an alternate timeline where Kelly Grayson rejected Ed's invitation for a second date, the Watson figures prominently.
Sometime after the year 2416[n 1] and before 2419, the First Officer of the USS Wilson was promoted to Captain of the Watson. Until October 2419, her staff aboard the Watson included First Officer Felson, Second Officer Mercer, and Helmsman Jacobs. In October, Felson was promoted to captain and left the Watson, Ed (who had unsuccessfully applied for transfer to the USS Jefferson) was promoted to first officer in their stead. Around September 2420, Jacobs transferred off the ship. Ed recommended Gordon Malloy to fill the vacancy, which the captain rejected.[2]
Sometime afterwards, Ed lost out for command of the USS Sagan. Feeling he was never going to get command of a ship and unwilling to stay on the Watson any longer, Ed accepted a promotion to become a the commanding officer of the Epsilon Eridani Station.[3]
