Doctor is a title indicating that the holder has attained a terminal level of education in their profession. It is used within the Planetary Union and possibly by other civilizations. Doctors who serve in the Union are generally referred to by their title of Doctor rather than by their rank or specific position.
For physicians, the title requires more training than Nurse, the holders of which also serve within the Union.
Planetary Union
Doctors serve at all levels of the Planetary Union, on board vessels and in stations, as either civilians or commissioned officers. For examples, Doctor Claire Finn serves aboard the USS Orville as a commissioned officer, holding the position of Chief Medical Officer and the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Doctor Aronov is a civilian researcher and Chief of the Epsilon Science Station on Epsilon 2.
