VEGGIE KIDS are a group of characters and NPCs in OMORI. They primarily reside in the secret area RAIN TOWN, waiting for more of their species to be born.
PROFILE
APPEARANCE
VEGGIE KIDS are small, adorable vegetable creatures with a youthful design, hence their name and appearances. There are four of them that appear throughout the game, consisting of: EGGPLANT, TOMATOGIRL, ONION, and POTATOGIRL.
Their heads all resemble the vegetable they were named after. The female VEGGIE KIDS have small pigtails, whereas the males don't have any hair. Though tomatoes are fruits by classification, nutritionists classify them as veggies.
PERSONALITY
The VEGGIE KIDS are shown to be adventurous, warm-hearted creatures desiring to discover new things around them. This is shown through their brief appearance in OTHERWORLD. Most of them enjoy any acts of kindness brought to them and are noted to dislike heavy rain due to it dampening their mood and making it hard for them to continue living.
STORY
The VEGGIE KIDS are first encountered at OTHERWORLD LAKE during the PROLOGUE, where a group of them have gone exploring. Interacting with any of them from there prompts them to cheerfully explain they are currently going on an adventure.
They can later be found at RAIN TOWN starting from THREE DAYS LEFT, which can be accessed from the shimmering part of the fountain in ORANGE OASIS. Speaking to the POTATOGIRL in the center of the town reveals that RAIN TOWN is currently suffering from heavy rain, and the VEGGIE KIDS are waiting for the CHOSEN ONE to save them all.
From there, the quest RAIN TOWN can be completed, in which the group must turn the valve located east of the town to adjust the level of rain pouring down on the VEGGIE KIDS. Interacting with the valve while OMORI is the party leader will allow one to turn it to the left or right, as other party members are unable to fully turn it.
Turning the valve to the left will flood RAIN TOWN, which corrupts the VEGGIE KIDS and makes the area permanently inaccessible on a regular playthrough. This will also prevent full completion of the sidequest. Turning it right will lower the rainfall to a pleasant trickle. Doing the latter will complete the sidequest, as well as obtaining the VEGGIE KID charm. The VEGGIE KIDS' dialogue will also change to them celebrating over their savior's heroic deeds.
Note that if the town is flooded, the OTHERWORLD VEGGIE KIDS remain oblivious to the incident and appear to be exploring still. PELLET will also comment that something is off with the lake that links to RAIN TOWN. On ONE DAY LEFT of the OMORI ROUTE, RAIN TOWN can be revisited but the entire place is completely flooded with dark energy from an unknown source and the VEGGIE KIDS have transformed into the SOMETHING variant LILI.

TRIVIA
- The respective names of the VEGGIE KIDS can found through the game's data.
- In the 2018 demo's files, there exists a set of unused sprites of the VEGGIE KIDS impaled by one of SWEETHEART's booby traps within her castle. These sprites imply that the VEGGIE KIDS were originally planned to appear at the castle.
- Within the CORRUPTED JUNKYARD, TOMATOGIRL makes a brief appearance there as a glitched NPC that asks OMORI to help her find her missing pillow. When attempting to retrieve it, TOMATOGIRL suddenly warps in front of OMORI and tells him that the pillow he found isn't hers.
- The eggplant VEGGIE KID bears a great resemblance to AUBREY's stuffed toy, MR. PLANTEGG. In addition, the official MR. PLANTEGG plushie uses EGGPLANT's sprite instead of the actual sprite of the toy.
- When turning the valve to the right, one of the POTATOGIRLs changes her sprite into a TOMATOGIRL. This is most likely an oversight or error left by the developers themselves by accident.
- In FARAWAY TOWN, TOMATOGIRL appears as KATIE's PET ROCK.
