TRAIN

The TRAIN is a location in OMORI, accessed starting from THREE DAYS LEFT on all routes of the game. It serves as a transportation system that connects VAST FOREST and ORANGE OASIS.

GEOGRAPHY

The TRAIN appears to be purple-colored and is filled with STRANGERs and suitcases full of various items. However, it usually tends have flickering lights that unintentionally results in a few SOMETHING variants manifesting from the darkness. There are also various seats that aren't interactable when touching them.

STORY

After obtaining the TRAIN PASS from SPACE BOYFRIEND, OMORI can board the train from the TRAIN STATION. This can only be done after the PROLOGUE. Attempting to board the train without visiting the CATTAIL FIELD will be met with the line being blocked by an unknown character.

Once OMORI and friends board the train, this will lead to a short segment inside the train. At first, it will be full of STRANGERS and baggage that contains various items. After a few seconds, the TRAIN becomes dark and full of spiders.

If OMORI keeps walking, he will encounter a deer-like SOMETHING, and engage it in battle. After the fight, the lights will flicker back on, revealing that all STRANGERS were turned into toast, and the TRAIN stops in ORANGE OASIS.

TRIVIA

  • The TRAIN originally looked different as shown in the 2017 trailer. In fact, it didn't have flickering lights, contained multiple posters of different advertisements, and lacked the STRANGERS reading newspapers.
    • In addition, SNALEY was planned to appear in this area but this encounter was removed as well.
  • This area notably marks serves as one of the two areas where a minor SOMETHING variant can be fought outside of the OMORI ROUTE, the other being VAST FOREST where NANCI can be fought after defeating HUMPHREY.
  • In the 2019 build of the game, the train ride scene turned out slightly different from the one shown in-game.
    • The passengers and OMORI's group would bounce whenever the TRAIN gets bumpy. It is unknown why this minor feature was removed in the full release.
    • In addition, DOROTHI's encounter slightly turned out different as it would attempt to move away whenever the party gets close. DOROTHI's stats were also lower than the one used in-game and its moveset was incomplete.
  • It's implied that the STRANGERS within the TRAIN are some of the former HEADSPACE citizens corrupted by BLACK SPACE's influence.
  • When the TRAIN becomes corrupted, various SOMETHING variants can be seen lurking in the background before the group fights a lone DOROTHI. They consist of LILI, MERCI, and SALLI.
    • CINDI was originally meant to appear in the background according to the RPG Maker MV project.
  • In the game's files, the STRANGERS in this area were originally meant to have more variation. However only one of the four sprites shown for the TRAIN STRANGER was used.
