SUNNY'S DAD is a character in OMORI. He is the father of SUNNY and MARI, and likely the ex-husband of SUNNY'S MOM.
PROFILE
SUNNY'S DAD is only shown in a family portrait, taken when SUNNY was a baby and MARI was a young child. His sprite is never shown, though he is depicted in BLACK SPACE as a STRANGER variant.
STORY
Little is known about SUNNY'S DAD, as he is only mentioned in passing and never shows up in any meaningful capacity. At some point, he married SUNNY'S MOM and had a daughter, MARI, and a son named SUNNY three years later. They lived in SUNNY'S HOUSE in FARAWAY beside KEL'S HOUSE. His job is unknown, though it's said that he needed a laptop for work.
SUNNY notes various things about his father, such as that he gave SUNNY his computer, that he took his family on vacations and collected souvenirs, and that he and SUNNY'S MOM collected books that were "gathering dust." SUNNY also remembers that his dad sleeps on the right side of his bed, that he grew bonsai trees, that he and his wife didn't allow SUNNY to look in their wardrobe, and that he watched TV but got mad when the remote went missing.
In the PHOTO ALBUM, BASIL's annotation of a photo of HERO and MARI sleeping together on the couch notes that "MARI's dad might be kind of mad if he saw it," implying that he may have been disapproving of MARI and HERO's relationship.
After MARI's death, he was the one to cut down the tree from which her body was hung. This is implied in an area accessible through one of the HANGMAN holes in HEADSPACE, as well as a pond in LOST FOREST 1. In the HANGMAN hole a black outline of SUNNY'S DAD is shown continuously chopping at a tree. When interacted with, SUNNY'S DAD will say "You are not my son." The meaning of this line changes depending on who it is directed towards: if SUNNY's DAD is speaking to OMORI, then the line may be literal; OMORI is not his son, SUNNY is. If this is meant to be a memory of him speaking to SUNNY, it may indicate SUNNY's DAD disowned him due to the incident. It is also unclear if this event even happened, or if it is merely something SUNNY is imagining.
At some point, SUNNY'S DAD separated from his wife, leaving her and their child behind. The reason for this is unknown, though it is likely that it was partly due to the grief caused by MARI's supposed suicide.
