Yato is a minor deity and self-proclaimed "Delivery God" who dreams of having millions of worshippers. But without a single shrine dedicated to his name, his goals are far from being realized. He spends his days doing odd jobs for five yen apiece.

One day, middle-schooler Hiyori Iki saves Yato from a bus accident by taking the hit for him. She remarkably survives, but the event has caused her soul to frequently slip out of her body. Yato accepts Hiyori's wish to return her to normal, but by forming ties with the delivery god and his new weapon partner Yukine, Hiyori finds herself involved in the world of gods, spirits, and the afterlife.
