Wailord(JP) is a species of Pokémon in the series of the same name introduced in the third generation. It is a Water type Pokémon that evolves from Wailmer starting at level 40. It is the second largest Pokémon after Eternatus and the largest non-Legendary Pokémon.
Physiology and Behavior
Wailord is a huge Pokémon based on the blue whale. It has small beady eyes, a huge mouth, and a throat that is lined with grooves. It has a blue back with and four white spots, two breathing nostrils on top of its back, and a tan, grooved underbelly. It has two pairs of fins along its sides and a horizontal tail at the back.
Wailord is one of the largest Pokémon to have been discovered. Due to its immense size, it can make giant splashes by jumping out of the water and then crashing back down. These shockwaves allow Wailord to knock out its opponents and herd its prey. Wailord is able to eat large quantities at one time, such as schools of Wishiwashi. However, it will flee from Wishiwashi when the latter is in its School Form.
Wailord has an easygoing temperament and loves to play. Its size causes it to have almost no natural enemies; its only known predator is Dhelmise. Wailord lives in the sea in large groups called pods. These pods, which often include Wailmer, travel together in order to search for food. When a Wailmer is attacked by its predators Sharpedo or Dhelmise, its whole pod works to defend it. Wailord can dive deep at 10,000 feet (3,000 meters) in one breath.
Wailord is popular due to its size. As a result, Wailord-watching is a favorite sightseeing activity in various parts of the world. However, Wailord are known to be driven away by fishermen when they become too numerous, so they don't eat too much fish Pokémon.

Other Pokémon games
Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia: A Wailord is seen in the Sea of Wailord that was trapped by Team Dim Sun. The player must free it by deactivating the traps. Later on in the game, it is seen attacking Kincaid's submarine. After the player captures Darkrai for the first time, and then goes to Haruba Desert's dock, Wailord will ferry the player to the Capture Arena.
Super Smash Bros.
Wailord makes a cameo appearance in the Kalos Pokémon League. When the stage transitions to the Flood Chamber, it can be seen in the background along with Blastoise, Piplup, and Clawitzer.

Origin and inspiration
Wailords are similar to Blue Whales or other types of whales, and as stated above they are also similar to blimps, which is probably why they are so light while being so large. The word Wailord is a mixture of the words whale and lord.
