The Stylus is an accessory that comes with every Nintendo DS, Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo DSi, Nintendo DSi XL, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo 2DS, New Nintendo 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS XL, New Nintendo 2DS XL and Wii U (although it is possible to purchase another stylus from a Third-Party company if the original was misplaced.) The stylus usually has a white tip on the bottom.
Description
The Stylus is a pen-like accessory. It is located at a specific area of the DS, depending on which model. It helps players have more accuracy in using the touch screen, as the keyboard is small or other cases.
The original DS Stylus is short and thin. Its nub is also very thin. This Stylus is stored in the back of the DS.
The original DS had another Stylus that was attached to the optional DS wrist strap. It is called the Thumb Stylus. This allows easier movement and aiming in games such as Super Mario 64 DS or Metroid Prime Hunters for example.
The Stylus of the DS Lite is larger with a bigger nub. It is located in the right side of the console.
The DSi Stylus is located in the same place as the DS Lite one. The nub of it is also smaller and less rounded. The DSi XL Stylus is very similar but slightly longer and its nub is rounded at the front.
The DSi XL has an improved version of the Stylus called the 'Touch Pen'. It is larger and looks like a fountain pen.
The stylus of the original 3DS looks slightly more modernized and has metal for the shaft of it, unlike the other stylus in the past DS consoles which are made of plastic. The 3DS stylus can be extended by holding the nub of it and pulling it backwards, effectively making a longer and therefore more comfortable gaming experience. (up to 100mm). This Stylus stores in the back of the 3DS just like the first DS Stylus.
The 3DS XL Stylus is similar to the DSi XL one but is slightly longer and its nub is thinner. It also stores in the right side of the 3DS XL just like the DS Lite one.
The 2DS Stylus is similar to the 3DS XL one but the nub is slanted so that it will fit in properly on the 2DS. The nub is also textured to allow it to easily be taken out of the 2DS. It stores in the right side of the 2DS.
The New 3DS Stylus is similar in length to the original DS and 3DS Stylus but does not have the telescoping function and the nub is also a different shape to allow players to easily remove the back faceplate of the console. The New 3DS Stylus is also similar in thickness to the original DS Stylus. This Stylus is made of plastic instead of metal as well. The one for the XL model is very similar but is thicker and ever so slightly longer. The New 2DS XL Stylus is similar to these but is much shorter. All three of these Styluses store on the front of these consoles.
The Wii U GamePad also has a Stylus. It is very similar to the DSi XL Stylus. It stores on the top of the controller. Its nub is also larger.
Brain Age for the Switch has a Stylus included with the physical version of the game. Unlike all the previous Nintendo Styluses, this one is designed for use with capacitive touchscreens like the Switch which also means you can use it on your smartphone if you want.
Please note that the stylus is not suitable for children under the age of three years old due to a choking hazard with small parts that may be generated (which is based on the warning label).
