On the Roof
In Super Mario 64 after collecting all the Stars, the cannon outside the castle will unlock, allowing you to shoot to the roof. There are 3 1-Ups here, along with Yoshi.
Yoshi
Talk to Yoshi and he'll give you 100 lives and a triple-jump powerup, and then jump into the waterfall.
