The Oocca are a species of bird-like creatures from The Legend of Zelda series.
Appearances
Twilight Princess
They first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Wii and GameCube, and are said to have created the race known as the Hylians, who are arguably the paramount species in the series of video games. In the game, the species live in the City in the Sky, where they greatly assist Link.
Despite the fact that Hylians are the chosen species of the gods, it has been said the Oocca are even closer than them and the Sheikah. It's also been stated that they are in some way associated with the Royal Family of Hyrule.
The Oocca can be used as if you were wielding a Cucco, another, unintelligent species from the series - just like Cucco, they can be used to glide over cliffs and to platforms far away. The species seem to be based on the birds from M.C. Escher's painting "Another World".
Super Smash Bros. series
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii, an Ooccoo and Ooccoo Jr. appear as a trophy that you're able to collect. The following is what the trophy says:
- "One of the Oocca, Ooccoo travels around with her son in search of a means to return to her home, the City in the Sky. Her human-masked bird form is incredibly mysterious, but she's nice and likes to talk. If you use Ooccoo in dungeons, like you would an item, she'll warp you outside the dungeon."
