Super Mario 3D Land
Coin Boxes first appeared in Super Mario 3D Land, though they are only found in worlds 8-1, 8-4, and Special 1-3. In this game, Mario and Luigi can wear Coin Boxes on their heads, and when they do, it grants them coins as they move. You cannot use fireballs or boomerangs while it is on, and if the player reaches the Flagpole with it on, it will grant them an extra life. It will eventually disappear, however, and it is also taken off if the player takes damage.
