Axew(JP) is a species of Pokémon in the series of the same name. It is a Dragon type Pokémon that made its first appearance in the fifth Pokémon generation in the Black and White games.
Physiology and Behaviour
Axew is a bipedal, grayish-green Pokémon with pale, straight tusks protruding from the sides of its mouth. These tusks can regenerate if broken and will regrow if they fall out. This repeated regrowth strengthens and sharpens its tusks. Axew's tusks serve numerous purposes, such as making territorial gashes in trees and boulders, playing with each other, and crushing Berries for eating. In ancient times, people used Axew's discarded tusks as cooking knives.
The back of Axew's head is dark grayish-green with a tall, slightly curved horn. Large, dark grayish-green ovals surround its red eyes, and it has a short, rounded snout with large nostrils. A forest green collar marking encircles its neck. Axew's limbs and tail are short, with its forelimbs having three digits and its feet having two digits. As shown in the anime, Axew is skilled at climbing walls and trees. Axew lives in nests made in the ground.
Appearances
Main Pokémon games
Axew first appeared as an obtainable Pokémon in the 2010 Nintendo DS video game Pokémon Black and White where they could be found in the Mistralton Cave.
Super Smash Bros.
Axew appears in the background of the Kalos Pokémon League stage when the stage is in the Dragonmark Chamber. It appears alongside Dragonite, Garchomp, and Hydreigon.
In the anime
In Pokémon the Series: Black and White, Axew was the first Pokémon that the character, Iris, obtained. In the earlier episodes, Axew lived outside of its Poké Ball (like Pikachu) and could regularly be found residing in Iris' hair. During the events of Pokémon Journeys: The Series, her Axew evolved into Haxorus.
