The Void is the seventh episode of the third season of Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu and the 33rd episode overall. It first premiered on November 26, 2014, in the United States on Cartoon Network.
Synopsis
The ninja will have to quickly adapt to space as they race the Nindroids to retrieve the Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu. Who will make it back safely? Ninja or Nindroid?[citation needed]
Plot
The ninja are stowed away in the engine section of the Arcturus as it flies through space. They make contact with Borg Tower and voice their concerns about their current predicament to Sensei Wu, Garmadon, Nya, and P.I.X.A.L. Wu discovers that there are space suits inside the ship, which will enable them to go outside and commandeer the ship. Zane goes out and tries to search them, due to being a Nindroid and therefore not needing oxygen. He, however, slips while hiding from General Cryptor and floats away from the ship, but uses his Ice powers to get back.
He finds the suits and gives them to the other ninja just as the rocket disengages its un-needed engines. However, when they climb toward the door leading to the cockpit they are attacked by Nindroids, who fire on them with laser guns. Following Jay's initiative of fighting back, and learning that their Spinjitzu does not work in zero-gravity, the others take some laser guns as well, so that they successfully repel the attack. Soon the Arcturus enters the comet (Delta V) through its tail and is battered by massive ice meteorites.
In New Ninjago City, the Overborg, Pythor, and multiple Nindroids bring the Overlord's capsule inside the Borg Tower. When Nya and others up in Borg's office realize that the villains are coming, they quickly escape with the equipment needed to keep in contact with the ninja. Meanwhile, the Nindroids enter the office and open the capsule, releasing the Overlord in a blackened form of the Golden Master. The Overborg attacks Wu, Garmadon, and Nya but they are saved by a Hovercopter controlled by P.I.X.A.L.'s central computer.
In space, the Arcturus rocket crashes on the comet's surface where the melted and fused forms of the Golden Weapons are located. General Cryptor discovers the Golden Weapons and warns his Nindroid minions to not touch them, as one discovers why. The hidden ninja discovers them too as Jay excitedly finds an extraterrestrial beetle, which he names Glowie.[1] Unfortunately, said bugs eat anything metal—a fact that reaches them from Nya too late. While the Nindroids get away with the golden mass aboard their ROV, the ninja follows pursuit on their own while using the pursuing bugs against their robotic adversaries. The ninja eventually succeed in taking Cryptor's ignition key to the rocket, so that they cannot leave the comet with the Golden Weapons and take them to the Overlord.
However, their victory is short-lived when they find another bug swarm among the rocket—chewed up into pieces. Seeing this as well, Cryptor and the other surviving Nindroids use their built-in boosters to fly off the comet with their golden prize. Stranded on the surface with the insects, the ninja report to the others that they had failed, and are not coming back home.

Trivia
- The Hageman Brothers almost did a season about aliens after Rebooted, and the Project Arcturus storyline was going to be setting this up.[2]
- Zane stated that he did not need air to survive, despite Skalidor managing to cause him a shortness of breath when he choked him in "Can of Worms."
- However, that may have been due to Zane not yet knowing he was a Nindroid, so he would have thought he needed to breathe.
- The ninja's space suits are based on the Spaceman from Minifigures Series 1.
- Tommy Andreasen didn't want the ninja to go to space stating that: "Space shouldn't exist in Ninjago."[citation needed]
Continuity
- This episode marks the first time the Golden Weapons were seen since "Wrong Place, Wrong Time," aside from the flashback from the previous episode.
- The Museum Curator from the previous season and "The Curse of the Golden Master" is pictured in the book Nya uses to explain the astro parasites to the ninja.
- When Wu falls from Borg Tower and is grabbed by Garmadon's hand, it is similar to the scene from "Enter the Digiverse" where Wu saved Garmadon.
Errors
- Kai and Zane are able to shoot Fire and Ice in space, which is not possible since there is no oxygen in space to start a fire and ice would be converted to a gas.
- However, it's possible that elemental powers can defy the laws of physics.
- The ninja are able to hear each other in space, though this is not possible due to the lack of air, since sound waves need a medium, such as water or gas, to travel through.
- Its possible that they used their communicators to talk, this is possible since radiowaves can be transmitted in space, and there is oxygen in their helmets.
- In this case, Zane still wouldn't be able to hear them, nor would they be able to hear him.
- Its possible that they used their communicators to talk, this is possible since radiowaves can be transmitted in space, and there is oxygen in their helmets.
- This episode has a very great error, as after Lloyd uses the last of his Golden Power to give the ninja their raw elemental power in “Codename: Arcturus” he now has his Stone Armor gi, which he wears in “Codename: Arcturus”, this episode, and a majority of “The Titanium Ninja”. This is an error and not a suit choice as when in “The Titanium Ninja” when the rest of the ninja get their Stone Armor, Lloyd is shown putting the armor over his Techno Gi and it transforms into the Stone Armor Gi as if he didn’t have it before, despite having it for all the other episodes since “Codename: Arcturus”.
- A few seconds after the first 6 minutes of the episode, Nya wears her 2011 dress.
- When Min-Droid sets a timer for 5:00 it briefly goes to 4:49 before returning to 4:59 when Zane looks at it.
- At one scene when Cole used Spinjitzu and drifted away from the ship, he has his mask off but it's back on the next scene.
- Before Min-Droid activate autos sequencing he is much further away from the console compared to when Cryptor told him to initiate it.
- While following the Nindroids on the comet, Cole and Kai appear to have swapped voices while they're in the Lunar rover.
