A naginata is a spear-like weapon used by many beings in Ninjago and the Realm of Oni and Dragons.
History
Prior to Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu
The Pyro Vipers used naginatas to fight the Sons of the First Spinjitzu Master.

Boobytraps and How to Survive Them
After Lloyd tells Aspheera that the ninja don't know who the "Treacherous Deceiver" is, he is hit by a blast from her staff, which is a naginata.
Snaketastrophy
Aspheera is seen holding her staff during her speech.
Powerless
Aspheera uses her staff to fight the ninja, and later uses it to hold a Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu.
Ancient History
Aspheera uses the scroll to have Fire Fang follow the scent of the "Treacherous Deceiver." When Lloyd attempts to steal the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu from Aspheera, he fails as she uses Forbidden Spinjitzu to throw Lloyd off.
Never Trust a Human (flashback)
King Mambo V's guards use naginatas as weapons against Garmadon, and Aspheera uses her staff to defend herself against Wu.
Under Siege
Aspheera uses her staff with the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu to teleport the Monastery of Spinjitzu's defense system away. Later, Aspheera, being annoyed by Char, tries to strike him, but he moves in time and the hangar bay is revealed to the Pyro Vipers.
The Explorers Club
After escaping the security guards from the Explorer's Club, Nya, Lloyd, and Zane see the second Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu on a naginata and run away with it.
Vengeance is Mine!
In the Land Bounty, Lloyd holds the naginata with the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu but after yelling at Nya, he put the naginata down. Later, Aspheera would use her staff with the Scroll to teleport the Titan Mech away. Shortly after, Lloyd would pick up his naginata to fight her. After being defeated by Aspheera, Jay, Cole, Kai and Zane tried to fight her with the weapon only for all but Zane to fail. Wu asks for the naginata but Aspheera uses hers to try to teleport Wu but Zane cuts in and gets teleported to the Never-Realm.
A Cold Goodbye
Wu uses Aspheera's staff with the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu to fight the ninja, but he fails and P.I.X.A.L. uses the naginata to teleport the ninja to the Never-Realm.
Master of the Mountain
Into the Dark
Some of the Winged Guards held naginatas when the ninja arrived in Shintaro.
The Worst Rescue Ever
Some of the Winged Guards held naginatas when the ninja went to Vangelis to ask him for his help.
The Two Blades
Some of the Winged Guards held naginatas as they flew around Shintaro.
The Skull Sorcerer
Some Winged Guards flew around Shintaro holding naginatas. Princess Vania also uses her naginata to save Cole from a giant spider.
The Real Fall
When Vania, Cole, and Wu land in the spider's web, several naginata and shields are scattered throughout the web. Vania picks up a naginata and shield to use against a spider, but both prove ineffective.
The Ascent
Cole, Vania, Wu, and the Upply are ambushed by Hailmar and Winged Guards in the throne room. They threaten the heroes with their naginatas.
The Upply Strike Back!
Vangelis fought against Cole using a naginata against the Blades of Deliverance and Cole's shield.
The Son of Lilly
Vangelis fought against Cole using a naginata. When Vania and the Army of Shintaro arrive to assist in the fight against the Re-Awakened, they also wield naginatas.
Crystalized
Public Enemies 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5!
When the ninja learned that Aspheera's staff was not in Borg Tower, they tracked down the trucks and stole the staff from them, although they had to fight the New Ninja.
A Painful Promise
After absorbing the elemental power from Nya, Aspheera's staff is destroyed. However, a Crystal Spider appears, offering Aspheera a new purple staff.
The Council of the Crystal King
Aspheera was seen holding her new purple naginata in the episode.
The Fall of the Monastery
Pythor, Vangelis and Aspheera were seen using naginatas against some of the ninja team and Skylor.
Dragon Form
When the Army of Shintaro, Skales, and a few Hypnobrai warriors arrived, they fought against the Crystal Warriors with naginatas.
Roots
Some Hypnobrai such as Skales and Mezmo was seen holding and using naginatas against the Crystal Warriors.

They Call It Doom
The Mucoids in the Mother Garden wielded naginatas as their weapons to guard their Dragon Core.

Trivia
- The naginata piece was originally designed as a scepter for Elrond from LEGO The Lord of the Rings. However, the naginata of Aspheera and the Ice Emperor is a completely new piece.
- The design of Elrond's spear was used only by the Hypnobrai tribe and by Pythor in "The Fall of the Monastery." In all other appearances, the naginata has a different shape than the official LEGO piece.
- In 70751 Temple of Airjitzu and 71767 Ninja Dojo Temple, the naginata piece is used as a part of the buildings.
