“I have throughout the years worked with everything from building models, art directing content, creation of clothing, foam weapons, Legoland rides, and driver of the model development itself. (and prob. much more) I guess what I'm trying to say is, thanks to everyone I have worked with over the years, and to everyone that I have met that have shared their love for Ninjago. Once a ninja always a ninja!”
— Michael Knap[1]

Trivia
- He was a fan of LEGO and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as a kid.[3]
- He is often inspired by obscure toys at second-hand stores and flea markets.[3]
- He started working for LEGO on the Legends of Chima theme.[4]
- In 70617 Temple of the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon, he is referenced by a statue labeled "Master Knap".[5]
- He sent Brent Miller the 71708 Gamer's Market set because Miller had really wanted there to be a Pink Zane minifigure.[6]
- His favorite Minifigure is the original Titanium Zane from the Tournament of Elements wave, because it was the first time a character went beyond the level of "a colored ninja" as the main cast had been up until that point.[7]
- He has pushed for including characters who have not come in sets before in Ninjago: Legacy sets.[8]
