"R U" is the lead single and first track from Niki & Gabi's debut extended play (EP) Individual. It was released on August 11, 2017.
The accompanying music video for the song also premiered on the same day and was directed by Andrew Vallentine.
Background
On June 13, 2017, Niki tweeted a photo taken on set of the music video.[1] On June 25, 2017, Niki announced that they had just finalized the song.[2] On August 7, 2017, Niki tweeted the first audio teaser for the song.[3] The same day she shared some behind the scenes photos along with Gabi.[4][5] On August 10, 2017, Niki tweeted some more behind the scenes photos from the set of the video.[6]

Live performances
Niki and Gabi performed the song for the first time on August 16, 2017, at The Early Show. On August 25, 2017, Niki and Gabi gave their second performance of the song at Sweety High. They also performed for Popmania on September 13, 2017.
The song was due to be a part of their subsequently cancelled Individual Tour, however, they performed the song at the final and only date of the tour on December 27, 2018.
On September 15, 2019, Niki and Gabi performed the song in a traffic jam and recorded it for a YouTube video which was never released. On December 11, 2019, Niki and Gabi gave their first televised performance at the Streamy Premiere Awards.
