Lulu Day is the sixteenth episode of the first season of Ni Hao, Kai-Lan. In this episode, Kai-Lan and Lulu are having a special playdate together, but they end up playing with different things. They soon learn how to compromise their playing so that they can enjoy their playdate. It aired as part of a week of new episodes called "Super Happy Friends Week", which first begun with Kai-Lan's Carnival and followed by Roller Rintoo.

In production order, it is the seventeenth episode of the first season.

Plot

Howard the Owl sends Kai-Lan a letter, stating that Lulu wants to have a playdate with her. Kai-Lan sends Howard a drawing of herself and Lulu together, and then she makes a pinwheel. Lulu then comes over flying in her balloon, and then Ye-Ye brings toys in a backwagon for them. They both go to the ladybug playground.

However, when they bring out the toys, Lulu and Kai-Lan start to clash; where Kai-Lan wants to do pirates, while Lulu wants to do tea-party, stating that they want to do different things and want to play together. They both suggest to do something together, but neither of them can work anything out from anything else in the box. They eventually both become sad, stating that they both want to play with each other. Kai-Lan recaps that Lulu wanted to dance and she herself wanted to blow bubbles; they wanted to play with different things.

Tolee and Rintoo arrive, where they both play with toys out of the wagon, Tolee gets popsicle sticks, while Rintoo gets a race car, but then they eventually come up with an idea; building a stick ramp for the car. Kai-Lan gets a solution; "let's play a little bit of what we both want to do.". They both come up with the idea of a pirate tea party, where they both have a tea party while wearing pirate hats, using their imagination. They then both a make a wish on a dandelion, where they wish that they both can have a special playdate everyday.

Kai-Lan and Lulu both blow bubbles that they both ride on, where Ye-Ye then blows bubble shapes for everyone; a teapot for Lulu, a monkey for Hoho, a race-car for Rintoo, a panda for Tolee, and a dinosaur for Kai-Lan, which all forms into a heart-shaped bubble.

Trivia

  • In this episode, Rintoo and Tolee do not really appear until on the 11th minute. Hoho does not appear until the near end of the episode.
  • This is the first episode where Kai-Lan causes the main problem and where the main problem affects her, as well as the only main problem to affect Lulu. The other two episodes featuring a main problem that affects Kai-Lan are The Dinosaur Balloon and Kai-Lan's Big Surprise.
    • However, this is the only episode where Kai-Lan still talks to the viewers when singing, recapping and solving the main problem, as the both The Dinosaur Balloon and Kai-Lan's Big Surprise featured Rintoo doing those parts instead of her, with the latter episode alone also dragging both Tolee and Hoho into helping out.
    • Also, though Kai-Lan becomes a bit sad for a few seconds, she immediately regains her determined attitude and doesn't let the problem get her down, nor does she give up quit. It wasn't until Kai-Lan's Big Surprise that Kai-Lan actually felt down, gave up and quit.
  • This is the first episode where the episode title is in a different color. Other episodes have their title in red, while this episode has it in pink to match Lulu.
  • This is the first episode where the "We Got It" Song isn't sung without Kai-Lan, as well as not using "I Got It" either. Normally Kai-Lan first sings "We Got It" and then the other characters follow up with "I Got It".
  • This episode marks the second appearance of Howard the owl.
  • On the Kai-Lan's Carnival DVD, the episode uses the 2005-2009 Nick Jr. Productions logo.
  • This is the last episode to have the "waking up Mr. Sun" segment.
  • Running gag: Kai-Lan and Lulu (later Rintoo and Tolee) simultaneously say "uh-oh" when they can't figure out what to play.
  • This is the only episode to end without Kai-Lan recapping the events of the episode
  • A clip from the scene where Kai-Lan & Lulu hug each other and then twirl around in the air was also used in the Nick Jr. UK Next/Now Bumpers for this show in 2014, when it still aired in the Early Mornings at 4:05am (Later 4am) until 2015.[3]
