Eden is housed in the remains of an massive alien structure, measuring about 3 kilometers wide according to Pod 042 and Pod 153.[2]
Around the City Ruins and other surface locations, transporters contain secret messages in the form of memories. Together, they form information that points to the existence of Eden and its entrance.[1]
Eden is accessed via a spiral staircase that descends into darkness. After a room covered in speared alien corpses, a transporter acts as a gateway into an area containing a ruined city covered in white crystals. The city is occupied by hostile machine lifeforms waiting in ambush. Additional transporters are dotted around the city, each conveying memories of the old world, including topics such as Project Gestalt, White Chlorination Syndrome, Yonah, and The Red Dragon.[1]
A path further into the structure leads to an incomplete replica of the Bunker with cables heavily scattered about. Deeper into the forest-like collection of cables is riddled with tooth and claw marks, as well as the presence of Shades and the memories of Louise.[1]
A replica of the hangar holds a Flight Unit made of white plaster, which when approached causes cables to form into the shape of a colossus that terrorized the old world.[2][Note 1]
In another part of the structure, a dark chapel is present.[Note 2] It contains a machine lifeform writhing in pain, and another appearing to peacefully pray. Light shining through the chapel roof rests upon approximately 100 YoRHa android corpses surrounding a large black sphere of unknown purpose. The object evidently has the ability to repair a broken Black Box using fragments of other Black Boxes, at which point the object is destroyed.[1]
According to 2B, the chapel was likely used by the androids as a place of worship in their final hours. The YoRHa units are speculated by 2B to have gathered here after the collapse of the Bunker, but could also have been used prior to the event.[3]
Trivia
- The unknown black sphere may be a reference to the Moon seen in NieR Reincarnation, a similar black sphere that is said to grant wishes.
- Alternatively, it could be a Seed of Destruction, also known as a Seed of Resurrection. The Seeds originates from the Drakengard series and have also appeared in the YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse crossover event in Final Fantasy XIV Online, although they are coloured white instead of black.
