The Special Environmental Preservation Bureau (特別環境保全事務局 Tokubetsu Kankyō Jimukyoku), also known as SEPB (特環), is an organization established by the government that employs hosts to capture other hosts, in order to prevent existence of Mushi from being known.
The organization does not actually exist in name to the public. Regardless of whether a member of SEPB is an official, civilian, worker, or just an information provider, they have to disguise themselves in society as ordinary humans while living their own lives. Only until they receive news of a Host appearing, will they act under the Special Environmental Preservation Bureau's identity and use its authority. They do not do so just for the sake of capturing Hosts; but to prevent the existence of them from being revealed to the public instead.
Ironically, the ones capturing the rogue Hosts are actually Hosts themselves; they are those that work under the government with the condition they be given a certain amount of freedom. Those that become an employee of the Special Environmental Preservation Bureau will be further categorized according to their ability and capabilities.[1]
Equipment
- Each member of the organization receives a combat outfit which they have to wear during their missions.
- The combat outfit was created from the fusion of tree resin and strengthened fibers, and a pair of boots that is made up of a soft metal that reaches all the way to the knees. On top of this outfit, there is an unexpectedly light weighted pitch black coat that is said to be capable of withstanding extreme temperatures of up to a several hundred degrees, although it does not look like it. Another piece of this equipment are gloves made of leather.
- In addition, they add a pair of goggles that are created from the fusion of a soft metal and rubber. The goggles are large enough to completely cover the eyes, and all the way up to the forehead and ears. Inside the goggles is a pair of lenses which prevents people from being able to clearly see the wearer's eyes. Although the goggles are capable of supporting wireless communications and recording videos, its true purpose is to prevent people from recognizing the appearance of the hosts.[1]
Trivia
- The incident involving Fuyuhotaru supposedly turned half of the SEPB members into Fallen.[1]
