Zotoh Zhaan is a Delvian Pa'u (a priest of the Delvian Seek) who travels as part of Moya's crew on Farscape.
At the time of the series premiere, she is 812 years old.
Biography
A descendant of the prophet Ssaryn Zhaan (founder of the Delvian Seek), Zhaan lived on the planet Delvia. Her lover was the leader of Delvia, Bitaal. When his tenure came to an end, he refused to step down and hired the Peacekeepers for extra security. He rounded up protestors and sent them to concentration camps, including Zhaan's own father.
Zhaan, a self-proclaimed anarchist, assassinated Bitaal during Unity, later revealed to also be an attempt at the Dej-Wah.[1] The event drove her to insanity, and she was imprisoned by the PKs for nearly seventeen years. During that time, she regained control of her anger and became a 9th level Pa'u.
Zhaan eventually escapes on board the Leviathan Moya and becomes an integral member of her crew. With her scientific expertise, she serves as the onboard doctor. Several events from the first season, including "Rhapsody in Blue" and her encounter with Maldis, leads her to temporarily give up the Seek, though she later returns. At the behest of Kahaynu, Zhaan becomes Moya's official protector in "The Maltese Crichton."
At the end of "Season of Death," Zhaan uses all her power to bring Aeryn Sun back to life. This fatally weakens Zhaan, and she ultimately sacrifices herself in "Wait for the Wheel" to save the lives of Moya and her crew.
Personality
Zhaan is a gentle and compassionate, yet strong, being. She is particularly close with Pilot and Moya and is well-respected by all of the Moya crew members. Deeply spiritual, she spends much of her times in her quarters praying. She later becomes romantically involved with Stark.
