ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen, or "Second German Television") is a German broadcasting entity, launched in 1963 to compete with the ARD network of broadcasters (including NDR).
The station was the original German broadcaster of The Muppet Show. Retitled Die Muppet Show, new London-shot footage was used to further the localization. Most subsequent specials related to the main "The Muppets" troupe, as well as German guest appearances, aired on ZDF as well.
ZDF was later the production partner for Die Fraggles, the German co-production of Fraggle Rock. In 2009, the digital channel ZDFneo was launched, which also broadcast Muppet guest appearances.
