Will Possum is the stagehand at the town talent show in Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas. He is a kind old possum and enjoys fishing in the river near Gretchen Fox's Dock.
The puppet later surfaced on The Muppet Show as a Woodland Animal.
For Goodspeed Opera House's stage adaptation, the role of Will was originated by Jeff Hiller. The character's role was drastically reduced from the special, with his bartering conversation with Alice Otter given to Yancy Woodchuck, and his role as the talent show's stage manager given to Old Lady Possum (renamed "Penelope Possum" for the musical). He only appears in a background role during the song "Waterville." According to Anney McKilligan, Will Possum is Penelope Possum's husband, although this is not addressed in the script.[1]
Notes
- He is referred to as William Possum a few times in the script for the special.
