"The Pets" is performed by Kate twice on Sesame Street, with David and the Kids in the yard in Episode 0443, and while observing the Kids and their pets near Oscar's trash can in Episode 0507.

The song was written by Kate's performer, Malvina Reynolds. After New Zealand school children recorded a version with the addition of the "We love our pets" chorus (written by their teacher), Reynolds incorporated it and registered it in 1966 as "The Pets II." This version was used on Sesame Street as well as all album appearances.^[1]
