The Glutton is an overweight, humanoid Muppet who appeared in an Ed Sullivan Show sketch which aired on February 21, 1971. The ravenous gentleman rapidly consumes a beverage, a chicken leg, and a saltshaker, among other items. While cracking nuts, he finds a purple creature inside a nutshell that shrinks him. The Glutton meets an ironic end, eaten by a larger version of himself. However, he joins Jim Henson for a curtain call where he meets host Ed Sullivan. Sullivan declares to Henson that the Glutton is "the most gluttonous, ill-mannered, uncouth, loathsome individual we've ever had on our show!" The Glutton politely thanks Sullivan before attempting to devour him.
His appetite and facial design are similar to the later Lardpork character.
The Glutton is performed by Jim Henson and is assisted by Frank Oz and Richard Hunt[1] in operating the character.
