The F Story is a Sesame Street fairy tale read by Bob in season one, featuring a multitude of words beginning with the letter F.
Before Bob can begin the story, he's interrupted by Kermit, assuming he's naturally part of the story since "frog is the most beautiful F word in the entire world." When Bob replies that there are no frogs in the tale, the frustrated frog exits declaring, "Fie on you!"
The story begins with a fair maiden named Frieda (Frank Oz), who is venturing from her family's farm to visit her frail and feverish friend Flora, bringing along some fruit and flowers. However, along the way, she gets lost in a fearsome forest filled with fog. Kermit appears again, mistakenly believing he's been called for. Bob shoos the frog away.
Frieda starts to feel fatigued and decides to take a rest sitting atop a log. Kermit pops out from behind a tree, thinking he's been called for again. As he situates himself on the forest floor to be sat upon, Frieda balks at the idea and sends the frog packing. Suddenly, the freezing wind of a Friday in February causes Frieda to chill. She remarks, "I wouldn't send a dog out on a night like this," which Kermit again mishears as a cue for himself before Bob demands he leave.
Just then, Freida runs into a friendly farmer named Fred (Jim Henson), begging the favor of some food to satisfy his famished form. Frieda has but one fig left, but allows him to have it. Fred removes his hooded cloak to reveal he's actually a prince in disguise. Frieda fits the bill as a fine, generous young maiden to be his bride. They seal their engagement with a kiss, when suddenly in a puff of smoke, Prince Fred turns into Kermit. Bob objects to this unplanned ending, citing that the reverse usually happens in fairy tales. "Not in this story, fella," replies Kermit. Frieda has now warmed up to this funny froggy and the two stroll off to live happily ever after.
