Polynesia is the mentor, tutor, and friend of Dr. Dolittle. She was built by the Jim Henson Creature Shop, along with 94 other animatronic animals, for the London West End musical Dr. Dolittle. Polynesia is a West African parrot. She is able to speak English and is the one who first teaches Dolittle the language of animals.
Polynesia was performed to a pre-recorded vocal track by Julie Andrews. Puppeteers for the bird included Wim Booth (original run) and Sarah Burgess and Ronnie LeDrew (in later tours).
Charles, Prince of Wales and his youngest son, Prince Harry, meet Polynasia the parrot at the premier of the West End musical at the Labatt's Apollo in London (July 6, 1998)
