Paul Bunyan is a legendary lumberjack of enormous size thought to have emerged from the Tall Tale genre of North American folklore. The first published Paul Bunyan folktales appeared in the 1910 story Round the River by James MacGillivray. Along with his companion Babe the Blue Ox, Bunyan was said to have created the Grand Canyon, Mount Hood, the Great Lakes, and more.
