Ned Beatty (1937-2021) was a character actor who played the gigantic Farmer Grultrud in the Creature Shop production Gulliver's Travels.
The portly, genial-looking Beatty made his film debut in Deliverance (1972) and received an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Arthur Jensen in Network (1976). Other notable roles include Lex Luthor's henchman Otis in the first two Superman films, Detective Bolander on the series Homicide: Life on the Street, and a recurring guest role on Roseanne as Dan's father, as well as guest spots on M*A*S*H, Gunsmoke, and Murder, She Wrote.
