Mean Girls is a 2004 comedy film starring Lindsay Lohan, based on Rosalind Wiseman's 2002 book, Queen Bees and Wannabes.

The film later spawned a 2011 sequel on ABC Family and was adapted into a Broadway musical in 2018, which was then adapted to film in 2024.

References

  • The film is cited as fitting the Balconism "BLONDE-tourage" in episode 11 of From the Balcony, where the popular blonde in school is surrounded by ditzy sidekicks.
  • During an appearance on Moviefone Unscripted to promote Muppets Most Wanted in 2014, Tina Fey is asked who would play whom in a Muppet version of Mean Girls. Sitting alongside her co-stars Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog, Fey points out that obviously Piggy would play Regina George (played by Rachel McAdams in the original film). Fey adds that the character she played, math teacher Ms. Norbury, would be Scooter "because I physically resemble Scooter the most." Gretchen (Lacey Chabert) would be a chicken (Kermit adds, probably Camilla) "and everyone else would be Janice because I've run out of female Muppets." Kermit agrees, "That's kind of the end of the list, I think."
  • October 3 has been considered "Mean Girls Day" by the film's fanbase, referencing a line of dialogue from the film. Marking the occasion, Elmo sent a tweet on October 3, 2021 reading, "You can always sit with Elmo," referencing another popular line from the film.
