COLD OPEN Gordon is about to go out for some morning exercise and runs into Snuffy, who shows Alice where Montana is on a map of the United States of America. This is followed by the Montana variation of the "Sesame Street Theme."
Muppets Herry Monster wakes up and says "Good Morning, Morning" to everything.

SCENE 1 Big Bird stands in the middle of all the commotion as everyone gets ready for Francis' upcoming ceremony. He notices how much food has been prepared, but mostly gets in the way as the grown-ups carry the food, chairs, and other necessities for outside. The adults finish clearing everything out that they need, leaving Big Bird alone until Francis returns to collect one more thing - Big Bird!

SCENE 2 Out in the field, everyone is gathered for the ceremony. Maria tries to persuade Oscar into leaving his can to see it, but he insists on staying until he's back on Sesame Street. (Maria: "Oscar! You'll never see anything like this on Sesame Street!" Oscar: "Yeah, if I'm lucky.")

SCENE 2 cont'd In the teepee, Big Bird learns the importance of the face paint as Lonn puts it on Francis - it represents a special moment just as the sun rises that the Crows believe gives off great power, but only for a split second, and the paint represents that moment and instills the power in Francis. Big Bird thinks Francis looks just like his dad and that they both look great. Everyone is amazed when Francis exits the teepee.

SCENE 3 The Crow ceremony begins as the Sesame Street gang watches on, with Billie Rose telling Big Bird what everything means. Francis will be "adopted" into elder Philip's Crow family, and Philip gives a speech in Crow language. Four Indians then dance around those gathered until they find Frances in the crowd. He is brought before Philip, who bestows the name "Fortunate Young Man" upon him. Frances then dances with Philip and his wife for the first time. Luis and Maria also receive ceremonial gifts. Next, Francis bestows a special gift to a special friend... and he's chosen Big Bird, who receives a quilt. Big Bird joins Francis and the two continue dancing.
SCENE 3 cont'd Everyone (even Oscar still within his can) joins in the dance. Big Bird announces the sponsors, and the credits follow over a montage of clips from the Sesame Street gang's trip in Montana.

  • This is a rare Friday-episode instance in which the "Sesame Street/CTW" message is announced before the credits roll.
  • Clips from Scene 2 were used in the opening montage for Elmo's World: Wild Wild West!
