SCENE 2 Big Bird pays Mr. Hooper five cents for a pencil, then excitedly tells Susan what he's planning to do. In order to make some money, he has decided to start a newspaper, as Sesame Street currently doesn't have one. As the editor, he sits down at the makeshift desk he’s made for his new newspaper, The Sesame Street News. Susan thinks it’s a great idea, but first Big Bird has to go find actual news items. He leaves, saying he'll be "back in a flash with a crash!"

SCENE 3 So far, Big Bird’s news is: the sun is shining, there are cars in the street, and Oscar is grouchy. Susan points out to him that all those things are evident to anyone who looks outside, then imagines situations he could write about that might make him happy (like free candy at Hooper's Store), angry (like a candy robbery at Hooper's) or sad (like Bob moving away). Big Bird reacts very dramatically, and when Bob comes around Big Bird goes into hysterics, thinking he’s really moving away. Susan and Bob comfort him, and Big Bird composes himself quickly with a simple "Oh."

SCENE 4 Big Bird (now wearing a paper visor) has collected news stories from his friends on Sesame Street, but no one put their names on them. Bob reads them, and helps him figure out who wrote which story: Mr. Hooper received an ice cream delivery and stacked newspapers, Ernie went to the zoo and took a bath with his Rubber Duckie, and Cookie Monster ate a lot of cookies. They come across a story written by someone who helped an old lady across the street, then had tea with her. Oscar reveals he wrote that story, and that he made it all up just to drive people crazy.
