Second Sun

Second Sun
Information
Plane Amonkhet
Card art art:"Second Sun"

Amonkhet's Second Sun is a celestial object of relevance in the plane's culture, both before and after Nicol Bolas's corruption. It is the smaller of the plane's two suns and was controlled by Bolas's magic between 4500 and 4560 AR.[1]

Description

Before Bolas trespassed on Amonkhet, the Second Sun was used to signal the trials, with a single champion being sacrificed every revolution.[1] When Bolas invaded the plane during the Great Mending, he magically fixed the Second Sun in the sky, enchanting it to gradually cross the sky toward the Horn Monument, casting the plane in perpetual daytime.[2][3][4] It eventually aligned with the Monument, announcing Bolas's arrival and the start of the hours. After the Hour of Devastation, the sun returned to its normal cycle, returning night to the plane.

The Second Sun's light is said to be the source of Oketra's arrows, while Hazoret is said to have been born from the same magic that created it, the "God-Pharaoh's breath."

Nickname

Incidentally, Nicol Bolas was also known as the Second Sun on early Dominaria.[5]
