Havik

I choose what is right. Because I hold the power. And I choose to bless all beings, everywhere, with anarchy.

—Titan Havik in Mortal Kombat 1

This article is about the character Havik, who is also named Dairou in the current timeline. For other characters that use the Dairou name, see Dairou (disambiguation).

Havik, also known as the Cleric of Chaos, is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. A denizen from Chaosrealm, he is hellbent on bringing Chaos to any and all realms he sees fit to upset the balance of Order.

Havik made his playable debut in Mortal Kombat: Deception. He later appears as one of the many characters in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

A new version of Havik returns in Mortal Kombat 1, marking his return to the franchise as a playable character for the first time in over 17 years. A Titan variant from another timeline appears in a mid-credit scene in the game's Story Mode and later serves as the main antagonist of the Khaos Reigns Story Mode expansion.

About Havik

Hailing from the Chaosrealm, Havik is a Cleric of Chaos and an anarchist. Neither good nor evil, his ambitions are only to spread discord, and he will ally himself with those who can seek to further his ends, regardless of their goals. He is known to be a frequent troublemaker in Seido (the Realm of Order), and is heralded as a hero by the populace of the Chaosrealm, where he has formed an alliance with the revolutionary Darrius. He opposes the Dragon King, Onaga, who rules by order, and he rivals Hotaru, the Seidan guardsman.

In the current timeline, Havik hails from the Orderrealm. His backstory is extended upon and partially amalgamated with that of the Seidan Dairou, whose name Havik now shares, as well as his history as a member of Seido. Despite this, this version of the character is not a new version of Dairou. A member of its lowest caste, Havik was driven by anger due to its laws, setting out to destroy Seido's regime, replacing it with an anarchist utopia and freeing its citizens. He allies with Quan Chi to achieve these goals but after the sorcerer is imprisoned, Havik sets out to complete his mission on his own terms.

A Titan variant of Havik exists in another timeline, still originating from Chaosrealm but is a Keeper of Time and uses his Godly power from The Hourglass to bring chaos to his entire timeline. He is the leader of the Brotherhood of Chaos, a faction of kombatants influenced by Titan Havik's chaos. This Titan variant is also responsible for transforming the new version of Bi-Han into the Wraith Noob Saibot instead of Quan Chi, however rather than being the traditional Wraith seen in the series, he is made purely from chaos rather than necromancy.

Unlike Titan Shang Tsung, Liu Kang and Geras, this Havik had already discovered other timelines within the multiverse and even began merging them into his own. After defeating Kronika and seizing the Hourglass, at an unknown time, Titan Havik had also amassed the Kamidogu. With their combined power, Titan Havik used the Kamidogu to warp the reality of his timeline with the combined power of the Hourglass. By kidnapping and harvesting the Time Crystals within the bodies of countless Geras variants, it allowed him to warp the reality of other timelines as well, allowing the Cleric of Chaos to merge timelines into his own. Amassing enough Time Crystals, using his Godly power from the Hourglass with the combined potential of the Kamidogu, Titan Havik plans to throw the entire multiverse into nothing but chaos.

Appearance

In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, Havik is a muscular man whose appearance is identified primarily by his mutilated face, specifically his burnt-off nose and mouth. He wears a battle helmet that covers his entire head except for his face; his hair sticks out the back in a ponytail. He wears padded armour that covers only the left side of his chest. His left arm is covered in a blue sleeve, while his right arm only has an armband and glove.  He wears baggy pants with a blue sash over metal plated boots that go up to his knees.

Alternate Costume: Havik wears a black hood on his head, covering his hideous face. He wears a dark purple shirt under that with red thick "suspenders." He also wears silver/metal arm guards and red and black gloves.  He wears a thick red sash and has a red and black flap in front of his legs. He wears baggy dark purple pants over silver and black boots.

In most of his appearances up to Mortal Kombat X, Havik wears the Chaos Headdress, a silver headpiece that covers his cheeks and forehead and is adorned with ancient symbols representing various degrees of chaos. His outfit is primarily red and blue, consisting of a blue left sleeve with a red cuff, blue pants and a red sash, black gloves and gray boots, shoulder and left rib armor, various bandages, a red scarf underneath his ponytail, and a medallion with four Chinese symbols engraved in cardinal positions on the front, with a star shape in the middle (ultimately resembling a compass of sorts). While Havik has black eyes, they may occasionally be depicted as blank.

In Mortal Kombat 1, Havik sports a side-swept hairstyle as opposed to his previous iteration's ponytail. His outfit structure is largely the same, though he lacks the Chaos Headdress. Instead of a sash, he wears a large, red-violet waistcloth, partially covered by leather straps. Numerous belts connect Havik's armor together. His right forearm is equipped with a gray glove tipped with metal claws, while his left forearm is covered by a fingerless, red-violet vambrace. The entirety of his left arm is adorned with metal armor slats, which are further covered by various spiked armor pieces (also adorning his boots) and a vicious double-sided armblade. He retains the compass-style medallion over his left pauldron, though he lacks full rib armor and his right pauldron is noticeably smaller and less reinforced.

Combat Characteristics

Powers and Abilities

Being a Cleric of Chaos, Havik possesses a fighting style showcasing a bizarre assortment of techniques that can both throw off and devastate the opponent's mind and body. His body is so warped that he experiences joy and pleasure instead of pain and suffering. He is able to rejuvenate himself by dislocating his own limbs or even recover from what should be life-ending injuries such as a broken neck and crushed skull. Because of his unpredictable ways, what may seem as a battle of death is nothing more than either a lesson or a friendly conversation. Beyond this is a fighting style revolving around savagery and mayhem.

As revealed in the alternate timeline, Havik has some skill in sorcery, as he was able to corrupt the Blood Magik within the Kamidogu, allowing him to corrupt and possess anyone who is cut with one of the daggers, even gods. There seems to be no limit to how many victims Havik can control at one time, or even distances, as he is able to control others while in an entirely different realm.

Havik also possesses a healing factor, which is what allows him to survive his deadly contortions, such as his neck snapping, and even reattach severed limbs with little hassle. When this ability was enhanced by Blood Magik, he could survive being beaten to death by Scorpion's hellfire-coated punches.

In Mortal Kombat 1, Havik's healing factor is granted to him by Quan Chi's dark magic and appears nigh-absolute and, as a result, his fighting style is far more macabre in comparison. He can twist and tear his torso apart, use his internal organs as weapons, and even tear off his own head and immediately grow a new one.

Signature Moves

  • Torso Spin: Havik spins his torso around, using his arms to strike his opponent. In MK1, this is called Twisted Torso and has Havik separate his upper and lower body to rotate his torso around in a slow, helicopter-like fashion, with the final punch knocking the opponent to the ground. This attack can miss ducking opponents. Havik is considered airborne when performing this special attack, despite being grounded when performing the attack. (MK:D, MK:A, MK1)
    • In MK1, the enhanced version deals increased damage and has an increased hitbox, allowing it to strike ducking opponents. Additionally, the first hit of this Special Attack is unbreakable with a Combo Breaker.
  • Diving Corpse: Havik dives under his opponent, knocking them into the air. (MK:D, MK:A)
  • Crackling Legs Projectile: Havik cracks his legs in an impossible right angle fashion and sends a projectile from his hands. (MK:D, MK:A)
  • Head Snap: Havik snaps his neck once and then back into place, restoring health in the process. (MK:D, MK:A)
  • Corpse Taunt: Havik bends his body down and comes back up, restoring health in the process, more so than the Head Snap, but in return, the process will take twice as long as the Head Snap. (MK:D, MK:A)
  • Neoplasm: Havik conjures a ball of viscera from his chest that spins around him once and flies towards the opponent. This attack can miss ducking opponents. If Havik is attacked before the Neoplasm begins traveling, it will explode prematurely, dealing no damage to the opponent. This attack has different hit reactions based on how it connects on the opponent; (MK1)
    • Normal Version - The neoplasm explodes in the opponent's face, dealing damage. When timed correctly, Havik can continue combos.
    • In-Combo Version - When used in a combo, the neoplasm has a bigger explosion, launching the opponent into the air for combo extensions. Consecutive uses increase the gravity of the combo, which eventually forces the opponent to the ground.
    • Airborne Start-up Version - If the attack strikes an airborne opponent outside of a combo, they will take damage and get knocked to the ground closer to Havik, depending on their position.
      • Enhancing the attack increases the attack's hitbox, allowing it to hit ducking opponents. Additionally, the Neoplasm orbits around Havik before appearing behind the opponent to damage them, knocking them into the air for a juggle. This version of the attack is not affected by hit reaction and will always launch the opponent if it successfully hits. The Neoplasm does not explode unless it makes contact with the opponent or their Kameo Fighter, unlike the original version where it will explode immediately if the opponent is too close to Havik. Havik is extremely safe if this version of the attack is blocked by the opponent. Striking a Kameo Fighter does not launch the opponent, but will disable their Kameo for some time.
  • Seeking Neoplasm: Havik begins ripping off his head, leaving a large gaping hole in his neck that creates a ball of viscera that flies into the air before flying towards the opponent that explodes on contact, launching the opponent into the air for a juggle. Despite the name, the attack does not "seek" or track the opponent. Havik is completely vulnerable when summoning the Neoplasm. If the attack successfully connects at full-screen distance, it deals significantly reduced damage. Additionally, if Havik is attacked just before he can conjure the Neoplasm, it will not form and fly at the opponent, however if Havik is attacked after the Neoplasm forms, it will still fly at the opponent. (MK1)
    • Enhancing the attack has Havik create two balls of Neoplasm for increased damage.
  • Helping Hand: Havik rips his own arm off and bashes the opponent with it. Havik is armored while performing this attack, however Havik cannot connect this attack in a combo without a Kameo Fighter's assistance due to its start-up. If this attack is Flawless Blocked by the opponent, Havik is completely vulnerable. This attack has different hit reactions based on how it connects on the opponent and whether or not the opponent strikes Havik while he performs the attack; (MK1)
    • Normal Version - Havik strikes the opponent three times with the final strike launching the opponent into the air for a juggle. This juggle effect is fixed and allows Havik to attack the opponent immediately after launching them, regardless of the current state of gravity with the combo. This version will also be performed when striking an airborne or juggled opponent.
    • Enhanced Version - Grants Havik more hits of armor and has him smack the opponent over the head, dealing slightly less damage but cause the opponent to crumble and fall over, stunning them and setting them up for a free hit. Performing this version of the attack on an airborne or juggled opponent bounces them for combo extensions.
    • Blocked or Attacked Versions - If Havik is attacked on startup, every version of the attack deals increased damage and knocks the opponent to the ground, performing the single strike version of the attack just like the enhanced version. This will also be performed when any version of the attack is blocked by the opponent.
  • Blood Bath: Havik rolls towards the opponent, grabs them and rips off his own jaw to puke blood in their face before punching them in the face, knocking them back. Havik can choose to roll to the opponent at a closer range, called (Close) Blood Bath, respectively. Havik is able to dodge projectiles or other High attacks when timed correctly. When connecting this attack on a juggled or airborne opponent, the opponent is still considered airborne if Kameo attacks are used while Havik is performing this attack. (MK1)
    • Enhancing the attack can only be performed at 30% or less health, costs two bars of Super Meter, offers no additional damage but causes Havik to create a neural link to himself and the opponent for some time. Havik again can choose to roll to the opponent at a closer range, called (Close) Enhanced Blood Bath, respectively. While the link is active, Havik gains an additional special attack once linked to the opponent but rapidly loses 10% of his health for as long as the link is active;
      • Corpse Taunt: While linked to the opponent, Havik will snap his own neck, losing 1% of his health and causes the opponent to do the same, stunning them and setting them up for a free hit. This stun effect is unblockable and unavoidable, however if Havik is attacked before activating this attack, the link will sever immediately and free the opponent. When used on a juggled or airborne opponent, the attack re-stands the opponent. Havik is affected by massive damage scaling when performing combos on an opponent stunned by this attack, dealing nearly 50% reduced damage. If Havik manages to perform the enhanced version of Blood Bath again in a combo that he had performed Corpse Taunt in, he will not create the neural link despite spending the meter.
        • Enhancing the attack deals over double the original damage and has the same effect as the original, however Havik will glow with an multi-colored aura for some time. During this time, Havik's controls are reversed but he can perform enhanced Special Attacks and use his Combo Breaker without the need of Super Meter. Unlike the original version, the damage scaling from the stun effect is completely ignored. Additionally, the unblockable neck snap of this version of the attack has armor breaking properties.
  • Nether Snatcher: Havik breaks both his legs to sever and extend one of his arms at the opponent's legs, knocking them into the air in the opposite direction for a juggle. Connecting this attack consecutively in the same combo knocks the opponent to the ground, ending the combo, however Havik recovers significantly faster than the opponent when knocking them down this way. This juggle effect is fixed and allows Havik to attack the opponent immediately after launching them, regardless of the current state of gravity with the combo. (MK1)
    • Enhancing the attack grants armor and increased damage at the expense of no longer launching the opponent for a juggle.
  • (Air) Nether Stomp: While airborne, Havik breaks off one of his legs and kicks the opponent in the face before it retracts back to his body, knocking the opponent to the ground. Havik recovers significantly faster than the opponent when knocking them down with this attack. This is capable of being Up Blocked by the opponent, leaving Havik completely vulnerable. (MK1)
    • Enhancing the attack deals less damage but bounces the opponent off the ground for a juggle. Like the original, this is capable of being Up Blocked by the opponent, leaving Havik completely vulnerable.

Fatal Blow

  • Disarmed and Dangerous: Havik rips off one of his arms and slams it over the opponent's head, stunning them. He then rushes to them after quickly regrowing the severed arm and viciously headbutts them, knock the opponent straight to the ground, where he pummels their face with a barrage of punches with so much force he destroys his own arms, leaving just broken forearms. He then impales the opponent in the side of the head with the protruding bones, shattering their skull before performing a knee strike that knocks them away. This Fatal Blow is capable of being Up Blocked by the opponent, leaving Havik completely vulnerable. (MK1)

Other Moves

  • Self-Destructive Barrage: Havik grabs the opponent and rips off his own head, smashing it against the opponent's. As his own head regenerates, he snaps the opponent's neck, lifts them up and tosses them behind himself while tearing his own torso off. (MK1)
  • Skab Stab: Havik leaps and punches the opponent in the face, gut punches their abdomen to stun them before ripping off his forearm and impaling them under the jaw and tossing them away in the opposite direction. This combo acts as a High Command Grab and is unblockable, but can miss jumping or ducking opponents. Havik is considered airborne when performing the first strike of this combo. (MK1)
  • Invasions Boss: In Invasion as a Final Boss, Havik gains the following moves during his Final Boss fight. Please note that these are not the confirmed names of these Special Attacks. (MK1 - Invasions)
    • Gigantism: Havik grows in size, becoming three times bigger in size and will grow even bigger as the fight progresses. This is shared with all other Invasion Bosses.
    • Vomiting Projectile: Havik begins couching, then pukes continuously on the opponent. This attack is called PukeProjectile in the game files.
    • Leg Attack: Havik breaks both his legs and thrusts his arms in a forward motion, knocking the opponent off their feet and away from Havik. This attack is considered a projectile and called LegProjectile in the game files.
    • Bowling Ball: Havik rips off his head and rolls it on the ground at the opponent's feet, knocking them off their feet in the process when it explodes. This attack grants armor and is called BossHeadBowl in the game files.
    • Neoplasm Barrage: Havik opens a hole in his chest and send out a barrage of Neoplasm at the opponent then ribs off a section of his ribs and throws it at the opponent. Havik is granted armor during this attack, however he is vulnerable when he is no longer glowing gold.
  • Kamidogu Empowerment: In the Khaos Reigns Story Mode, after imbuing himself with the infused Kamidogu, Havik's power increases exponentially, gaining amplified or new abilities. These include the following; (MK1 - Khaos Reigns Story Mode)
    • Improved Neoplasm: Any version of Neoplasm now grants Havik armor during the attack.
    • Improved Seeking Neoplasm: When performing Seeking Neoplasm, Havik sends out three balls of Neoplasm instead of one for increased damage.
    • Self-destruct: Havik explodes his entire body into gore, dealing unblockable damage if the opponent is close to him and knocking them away. Havik has armor while rematerializing.
    • Energy Beam: Havik fires a silver beam from his chest from the Kamidogu, dealing damage. This attack can miss ducking opponents. This attack also re-stands the opponent.
      • Enhancing the attack grants armor and deals increased damage.
    • Bonus Health: Titan Havik's health is increased during his Final Boss fight, bringing his health to 1500.

Fatalities

  • Human Pencil Sharpener: Havik quickly devours his opponent's arms, and then vomits up bloody chunks of meat immediately afterward. (MK:D)
  • Batter Up: Havik rips off his opponent's leg and bashes their head off with it. (MK:D)
  • Atomic Heart: Havik rips his own heart out. He then tears out his opponent's heart and inserts his into their chest cavity. Havik then crushes his opponent's heart, causing an explosion which tears their arm off and creates a large gaping hole in their body. (MK1)
  • RAD-ius Incision: Havik kicks the opponent in the hip, breaking his own leg and exposing the bone in his knee before stabbing it in their chin. He then punches the opponent's neck, breaking his own hand and exposing the bone. Havik impales the exposed bone through the opponent's neck and slices downwards, exposing their intestines. Havik then pushes their body, causing them to fall down onto their back. (MK1)

Brutalities

Mortal Kombat 1

  • The Klassic: Havik performs his uppercut, decapitating the opponent with a rising swing of his severed arm.
  • Good to Be Back!: Havik performs his Backwards Throw, only this time, when he snaps the opponent's neck, their head pops off.
  • Need a Hand?: Havik performs his Skab Stab combo, ripping off the opponent's head with his mutilated forearm bone.
  • It's a Twist-Off: Havik performs his Flesh Wound combo, beating the opponent mercilessly with his severed arm. He then pins the opponent to the ground with his foot, rips off their arm and replaces his severed one with their's as they bleed to death.
  • Knocking Around: Havik performs a Helping Hand, decapitating the opponent with the final uppercut.
  • Kablooey: Havik performs a Seeking Neoplasm, only this time, when the Neoplasm explodes on them, it stuns the opponent, with them looking around before exploding into gore.
  • Like A Top: Havik performs Twisted Torso, knocking the opponent's head off, decapitating them before he destroys it.
  • Dead Lasso: Havik performs the Neck Snapper combo. He uses his intestine like a lasso to catch his opponent, before he does a headbutt destroying the opponent's head.

Other Finishers

  • Hara-Kiri - Head Rip: Havik rips off his own head with both hands, holds it forward, and collapses. (MK:D)
  • Animality - No Laughing Matter: Havik turns into a hyena, mauling the opponent and tears out their intestines.

Trivia

General

  • A Krypt concept art reveals that Havik's model was going to be used for the Alternate Costume of Noob Saibot.
  • Havik's beta name was Skab.
  • When executing his Hara-Kiri, Havik holds his head toward the camera and grins, making him break the fourth wall.
    • This makes him the second character in the Mortal Kombat series to have broken the fourth wall (The first being Kabal).
  • Havik and other denizens of Chaosrealm worship water, considering its random, uncontrollable flow sacred and chaotic.
  • If Havik is knocked off completely of the sky tower in Deception, in the middle of his yelling as he plummets toward the ground he exclaims "Oh man, this is gonna suck!" and then resumes his screaming the rest of the way down. But in Armageddon, Taven, and custom male characters who use the voice of "Large Male 2" will also yell and exclaim "Oh man, this is gonna suck!" and scream continuously to the ground.
  • Havik's facial appearance (a half-naked skull and a pair of blank eyes), as well as his self-mutilating special abilities, seem to indicate that Havik is Undead. However, this has never been stated in canon, and likely reflects the nature of Havik's homeworld, Chaosrealm.
    • In 1, Havik's original appearance is that of a normal person and his mouth is a produce of being burned by lava. His eyes are also normal and not blank.
  • Havik is currently the only playable character in the series who originates from the Chaosrealm.
  • Though Havik can contort his body into impossible positions, he can still be killed by Hotaru's Triple Neck Snap Fatality. However, this is merely a gameplay mechanic or simply there is a limit to how much Havik can contort his body.
  • Havik's Batter Up Fatality is very similar to Quan Chi's Leg Beatdown Fatality in MK4, but instead of beating the opponent to death like Quan Chi does, Havik just knocks the opponent's head off.
  • It seems odd that Havik knows and uses a martial art as they are an ordered form of fighting. Something which Havik is against.
  • It's unknown just how powerful Havik's healing factor truly is as he apparently can heal from virtually any injury. His healing factor however is still not strong enough to allow him to survive Fatalities.
    • In 1, his healing factor can heal him of any injury he causes to himself but it apparently can't heal his scarred mouth.
  • While Havik is said to experience pleasure rather than pain, in 1 he visibly suffers after his face is burned by Scorpion.

Mortal Kombat (2011)

  • Havik makes a cameo appearance in Noob Saibot's Arcade ending, where it is revealed that he has made a secret pact with Havik. This could be a reference to his origins as an alternate costume for him.

Mortal Kombat 11

  • Havik makes a cameo in the Joker's ending, where he and the Joker team up in order to cause chaos in Orderrealm. To do so, they have created the League of Misunderstood Maniacs, which include Mileena and Hsu Hao as members.
    • Additionally, Havik is mentioned by Joker again in an interaction between him and Kitana, where he wishes to know where Havik is so he can - as Kitana describes it - "help stoke his chaos".
  • In the Aftermath Story Mode expansion, Havik is mentioned to be alive by Shang Tsung after he briefly banished Geras to Chaosrealm despite being killed during the events of the Mortal Kombat X Comic Series.

Mortal Kombat 1

  • Havik's virtue is presented as "Liberation".
  • An interaction between Reptile and Havik reveal Havik's real name in this timeline is Dairou, which lines up with his backstory of rebelling against his homerealm of Seido for being punished disproportionately to his crime, thus making him an amalgamation of the original Havik and Dairou characters.
  • Havik's ability to survive fatal injuries and regenerate lost limbs is revealed to be a result of Quan Chi's sorcery.
  • Havik and General Shao have the highest base health in the game at 110% without using Kameo Fighters.
  • Havik received the biggest character rework than any other character with the Khaos Reigns DLC.
    • While most characters receive minor changes or even a new attack with certain updates, Havik received the most for a single update. These include the following;
      • Havik gained three new Special Attacks - Nether Snatcher, (Air) Nether Stomp and an enhanced version of Corpse Taunt.
        • Nether Snatcher granted Havik a new launching ability as well as the enhanced version being a new fast armored attack, something he lacked from the beginning of the game.
      • Havik's aerial combo Crucial Strike received a new hit reaction - instead of knocking the opponent away full-screen distance, it now juggles the opponent, allowing Havik to perform follow-up attacks or use Kameo Attacks for further combo extensions.
      • Havik's Helping Hand became 14 frames faster, allowing it to be used in more situations as will as having a better chance of landing during a combo when using his Kameo.

Errors

Mortal Kombat 1

  • Havik's limbs have a chance to incorrectly reappear or never reappear again when performing special attacks that involve removing limbs and body parts.
    • This can happen during Round Win Poses in which Havik destroys or removes a limb right after performing one of these special attacks or after performing a Brutality.
      • Notably, if Havik performs Blood Bath and performs a Brutality in time or if the opponent leaves the match, Havik's lower jaw will never grow back.
  • On the Khaoseum, Titan Havik will return to his idle pose on his throne if either player successfully lands their Fatal Blow as if the match had ended via Brutality. He remains idle for the rest of the match and will not be attacked by the non-chaos inhabitants that occasionally attack him as a result.
  • During his boss fight in Khaos Reigns, Titan Havik will speak the same gameplay quotes as the current Havik, including "Seido for Seidans!" and others referencing Seido. Titan Havik originates from Chaosrealm, so these quotes don't make sense for him to say.
  • If Havik uses Shujinko to perform Ermac's Death Embrace, the buff will visibly deactivate after Havik performs certain attacks, however it will still be active.
  • Before it was corrected, if Havik performed the alternate Fatal Blow startup granted by Motaro, a second Havik in frozen animation would appear during the Fatal Blow. This was corrected with Motaro, however with the addition of a new alternate Fatal Blow startup for Kameo Sektor, this error reappeared in the game.
