The Roses are a species from Jun Mochizuki's Crimson-Shell. They are mutations made by The Madman, created when a seed from the Premier Rose is compatible with the human it is injected to, mutating their genes and bequeathing them unique abilities. However most forms of Roses are unable to survive without feeding on another's life force, and some require blood contracts as a form of defense. There are two known types of Roses: Black Roses, and Crimson Rose.

Premier Rose

The Premier Rose (プルミエの薔 (ば) 薇 (ら) , Purumie no Bara) is a "perfect flower" created by the Madman in order to create his Rose mutations.

Seeds

The Seed (種 (たね) , Tane) are a special component of all Roses created by the Madman. As part of his experiment, the Madman injected seeds from the Premier Rose into humans, mutating their genes. They are a vital part of a Rose, and, if you try to force a Seed out of a Rose, their roses would go berserk.

Types of Roses

Crimson Rose

The Crimson Rose (真紅の薔薇 (クリムゾン・ローズ) , Kurimuzon Rōzu is a perfect Rose mutation. They are gifted with eternal youth and immortality, and are able to live without requiring the life force of others. In addition, their blood is a deadly poison to the Black Roses.

Black Roses

The Black Roses (黒 (くろ) 薔 (ば) 薇 (ら) , Kurobara) are the most common type of Rose mutation — unfortunately, Black Roses are unable to survive without feeding on humans' life force, and will eventually die from a terrifying illness called the Black Spot (黒点 (こくてん) , Kokuten). A Black Rose can infect humans with their poison, and turn then into Victims.

Death Scythe

The Death Scythe (死神の鎌 (デス・サイズ) , Desu Saizu) is a weapon created by the Madman to specifically kill Rose mutations — the bullets are made of an elixir that paralyzes the body and even suppresses the movements of the Roses.

Power and Abilities

A Rose's powers depend on their type, however, some abilities are common between all Roses.

Enhanced Durability and Strength - Roses have a body stronger than that of humans
Roses - Roses have a seemingly unlimited supply of thorn covered vines — refered to as roses — at their disposal, which can ensnare, pierce, and pin down enemies.
Life Leeching - Roses are capable of feeding on a human's life through the use of their roses.
