Gloss was a male mole, and Captain Husk's personal spy and assassin, as well as the brother of Grith.
History
Urchin of the Riding Stars
Gloss is first seen at the court during Crispin's trial. He supports Husk throughout, and explains that Crispin could have easily killed Prince Tumble and then ran back to the Tower as if nothing had happened. Most animals, including Mistress Tay, support his idea. He puts a lot of evidence against Crispin, and King Brushen believes it and exiles Crispin.
Gloss is ordered to spy on Padra by Husk, but he is unable to follow him when the otter captain travels by water, so Lady Aspen orders him to spy on Urchin instead. Gloss searches Urchin and Padra's rooms for the king's token when Urchin persuades the king not to ration supplies, but didn't manage to find them.
Later, he sneaks onto Urchin's boat when he left Mistmantle Island, and instead of killing Urchin immediately, he waits in hopes of Urchin finding Crispin so that he could kill them both at once. When Urchin reached Swan Isle, he murders Whisper, mistaking her for Captain Crispin because she wore Crispin's captain circlet. However, before he could escape, Lord Arcneck snapped his neck, avenging Whisper.
Urchin and the Raven War
Gloss is mentioned by his brother, Grith, who says that he didn't know what happened to him until the swans arrived and told him of Gloss's fate.
