A keeper is a Feruchemist Terrisman living in the Final Empire who is tasked with preserving the memories of times before the Lord Ruler's immortality inside their copperminds. This is in the hope that when the Lord Ruler falls, they will be able to recall and restore what the world was like before his ascension. Each Keeper specializes in a different area of study-such as how Sazed pursued dead religions and Twindyl pursued biographies-but they all have a general knowledge within their copperminds.
Due to the Lord Ruler's breeding program, Keepers are scarce and are led by the Synod, a council of the oldest & most experienced Keepers. The Keepers did not exist to bring about the fall of the Lord Ruler, only to teach after he had fallen, with the exception of Sazed, who worked with Kelsier's crew to overthrow the Lord Ruler.
