Picross is a puzzle video game franchise based on nonogram puzzles. The first game in the series was Mario's Picross, which did well in Japan but ultimately did not do as well in sales overseas despite an extensive marketing campaign, resulting in most entries from that point onward being Japan-exclusive, and was eventually expanded to other Nintendo properties besides Mario (namely Zelda and Pokemon). Three Picross games released for Nintendo consoles have featured Metroid content.
Picross DS

In Picross DS, the solution to puzzle 11-M in "Normal" mode depicts Samus Aran from the original Metroid.[1] Once solved, the image becomes an animation of Samus running, jumping, and firing the Power Beam.
Club Nintendo Picross

In Club Nintendo Picross, the solution to puzzle 29 in "Free Picross" mode depicts Samus. The image in question resembles her pose in the Samus Data Screen of the Family Computer Disk System version of the first Metroid, with the only difference being that her arm cannon is aimed forward rather than to the side like in the original.
Club Nintendo Picross Plus
In Club Nintendo Picross Plus, the solutions to puzzles 9, 13, 37, and 82 depict an Energy Tank, the Morph Ball, a Metroid, and Zero Suit Samus respectively.[2] The Samus puzzle from the previous game (see above) reappears as puzzle 44 in "Mega Picross" mode.
