Kit Ellis

Kit Ellis (born March 28, 1980) is the former Senior Public Relations Manager for Nintendo of America, which he joined in 2009. Along with Krysta Yang, Ellis hosted Nintendo Minute from 2013-2021, when the California Nintendo office from which they were based was closed. Ellis and Yang left Nintendo in 2022, not wanting to relocate to the Redmond, Washington headquarters, and subsequently launched their own podcast, The Kit & Krysta Podcast.

Early career

Before coming to Nintendo, Ellis worked for Konami and Bandai Namco.

Involvement with Metroid

As a Public Relations Manager for Nintendo, Ellis was part of the marketing campaigns for Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid: Other M, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, Metroid: Samus Returns and Metroid Dread. In addition to promoting the latter three games on Nintendo Minute, Ellis organized a chalk mural based on Other M to be drawn by Erik Maruscak at PAX 2010.[1] He described working on Metroid Prime Trilogy[2] alone and together with Yang on Other M, although they are not credited in these games.

When Metroid II: Return of Samus was announced for release on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console in Europe, Shinesparkers contacted Ellis to ask if it would also be coming to North America. He responded: "That announcement was specific to Europe. We haven’t made any announcements about the game’s eShop availability in North America at this time." Ultimately, it was released in both North America and Europe on the same day, November 24, 2011.[3]

During a Miiverse video for Samus Returns, Ellis made a joke based on the Y can't Metroid crawl? meme, which was ignored or dismissed by the lead presenter.[4]

Ellis and Yang also appeared on episode 46 of the Nintendo Power Podcast, discussing fan favorite Nintendo Switch games that released in 2021, including Dread. After leaving Nintendo, they appeared on The Shinesparkers Podcast in March 2023.[5]

Trivia

  • Kraid's appearance in Dread gave Ellis goosebumps.[6] It was the second of his top 10 games of 2021.[7]
  • In a Kit & Krysta video about their search for a StreetPass in 2022, Ellis had a Metroid Prime: Federation Force cartridge in his 3DS system. He stated in episode 31 of the podcast that the game was, publicity speaking, doomed from the start, and he likes the idea of the game, but not as a Metroid title.[8]
