Jim Gage

This article is written from the Real Life point of view

Jim Gage is an audio engineer at Retro Studios. Gage has worked for them since 2001, and engineered all three games in the Metroid Prime series, as well as the Metroid Prime Trilogy compilation and Retro's subsequent Donkey Kong Country games. Gage is likely working on Metroid Prime 4.

Gage implemented code from a licensed VST plugin into the engine of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes to fix an issue with the Echo Visor's sound design. It may represent the first use of a VST plug-in on a video game console.[1]

During the development of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Gage was persuaded to build some Tesla coils in order to record their sounds, to be used in designing the sound of Phazon. They ended up taking the Tesla source, and many other sounds, to form the root of the "new Phazon" sound.[2]

Gage is a graduate of the University of Arkansas and was previously a software developer at Trilogy, a software company in Austin, Texas. Gage worked with another Texas engineer, Chip Killmar, to develop Swing Object Manager.
