Depthorns[1] are a species of aquatic creature found in Burenia on ZDR. They act similarly to Nailongs but are bound to the water, and lack the former creature's wings. Depthorns are naturally docile, swimming in circles until they are provoked by Samus.
When provoked, Depthorns expel balls of lightning that lob through the air in a clockwise fashion, rather than uniform thorns. Their bodies are translucent, with a course of electricity flashing from head to tail every second. One electric projectile can deal 40 units of damage to Samus.
A Depthorn, among other specimens on ZDR, is later seen kept in stasis in a room in Hanubia. When the X are released into ZDR, all Depthorns become infected, but this does not change their appearance or attacks. If the X is not absorbed after a Depthorn is destroyed, it will float away and reanimate into another Depthorn or a different creature, or flee off-screen altogether.
