Cretaphid

! This is a rare creature/object. It may only be scanned in one or few encounters.

Cretaphids are recurring bosses that appear in Metroid Prime Hunters. They are creations of the Alimbics, designed to guard Octoliths. Four different models appear in the game, each time with progressively more powerful weapons. However, they are all outwardly identical, each resembling a totem pole with red and blue nodes. The nodes are only vulnerable to damage when they are blue, and when all the nodes have been deactivated the core of the Cretaphid will appear. The Cretaphid core is the only true vulnerable point of any Cretaphid, and takes twice the normal amount of damage from the Battlehammer.

Individual Cretaphids

Cretaphid v1

Cretaphid v1 is the most basic version of the Cretaphids, and is faced during Samus's first visit to the Celestial Archives. It only shoots red/orange lasers from its nodes. Every time it loses a third of its health, the laser nodes move downwards. Once she has defeated the Cretaphid, Samus gains her first Octolith.

The nodes require 2 hits from a Power Beam to disable. After all the nodes have been neutralized, the core will appear.

  • After the core is exposed and it's health is depleted to a certain point, it will advance to the next stage and its health will be restored to the same value:
    • Stage 2: 360
    • Stage 3: 200

Utilizing the most sophisticated ALIMBIC cybernetics, this massive cylindrical mechanism features precision chemical lasers. The CRETAPHID is a key component of ALIMBIC military defense technology, designed to safeguard the ALIMBIC's most sacred objects.

Cretaphid v2

Cretaphid v2 is faced during Samus's first visit to the Vesper Defense Outpost and fires homing green plasma balls instead of lasers. The red nodes switch color faster than the ones on Cretaphid v1.

  • After the core is exposed and it's health is depleted to a certain point, it will advance to the next stage and its health will be restored to the same value:

This modified version of the CRETAPHID cybernetic defense mechanism features bursts of heat-seeking plasma. A key component of ALIMBIC military defense technology, it was designed to safeguard the ALIMBIC's most sacred objects.

Cretaphid v3

Cretaphid v3 is faced during Samus's second visit to the planet Alinos, and fires yellow lasers and green plasma balls. Each node functions as only the generator of one type of weapon: the laser nodes are one level at a time and the other two levels are plasma nodes. The laser nodes move downward in the exact fashion of Cretaphid v1.

  • After the core is exposed and it's health is depleted to a certain point, it will advance to the next stage and its health will be restored to the same value:

Combining the features of its predecessors, this version of the cybernetic CRETAPHID tower features both precision chemical lasers and bursts of heat-seeking plasma. A central component of the ALIMBIC military defense system, it was designed to safeguard the ALIMBIC's most sacred objects.

Cretaphid v4

Cretaphid v4 is faced during Samus's second visit to the planet Arcterra. It has attacks similar to v3, except it can move around the room and now shoots deadlier green lasers.

  • After the core is exposed and it's health is depleted to a certain point, it will advance to the next stage and its health will be restored to the same value:

The apex of the CRETAPHID line of cybernetic defenses, this ultimate model deploys lethal lasers and homing plasma from a mobile tower whose very casing is an offensive weapon. A key component of ALIMBIC military technology, it was designed to succeed where all others fail.

Trivia

  • If Samus fires a Missile at one of the green plasma balls a Cretaphid fires, the ball will freeze.
  • A glitch consistently occurs with the green orbs fired by Cretaphid v4: Instead of homing in on their target, they will almost always remain in one place until they eventually explode.
  • This is the Cretaphid's battle theme.
